Tahitian Dance Beginners
‘Ori Tahiti literally translated means Dance of Tahiti and is the dance of French Polynesia. It is a harmonious style, elegant and full of grace and at the same time strong, powerful and dynamic. It is divided into two main styles: APARIMA characterised by grace, elegance linked to the gestures of the hands that describe the elements within the sung text and OTE’A danced on percussions with rapid and strong movements characterised by strong energy.
In this course we will learn the basics of the ‘Ori Tahiti: basic steps, posture, use of the arms and the principles of movement in space. The basic steps will be addressed and practiced individually and will then be inserted in small combinations and performed / practiced on both percussion and melodic music. Some of the basic steps include: Tamau, Ami, Varu, Fa’arapu, Amaha and their basic variants. Together with Daniela you will learn and practice the steps that will be inserted in simple sequences and combinations.

Students who are already learning Tahitian Dance in regular classes and want to improve their dance technique.
