Tahitian Dance Beginners

ORI BEGINNERS

‘Ori Tahiti literally translated means Dance of Tahiti and is the dance of French Polynesia. It is a harmonious style, elegant and full of grace and at the same time strong, powerful and dynamic. It is divided into two main styles: APARIMA characterised by grace, elegance linked to the gestures of the hands that describe the elements within the sung text and OTE’A danced on percussions with rapid and strong movements characterised by strong energy.

In this course we will learn the basics of the ‘Ori Tahiti: basic steps, posture, use of the arms and the principles of movement in space. The basic steps will be addressed and practiced individually and will then be inserted in small combinations and performed / practiced on both percussion and melodic music. Some of the basic steps include: Tamau, Ami, Varu, Fa’arapu, Amaha and their basic variants. Together with Daniela you will learn and practice the steps that will be inserted in simple sequences and combinations.

Women who would like to learn Tahitian Dance but don’t have time or are too shy to attend a regular class

Students who are already learning Tahitian Dance in regular classes and want to improve their dance technique.

Daniela Belluati is a dancer and choreographer specialised in Polynesian Dance with more than twenty years of experience in the dance world.

In 2008 she founded in Brescia (ITALY) one of the first dance academies specialised in ethnic dances (asd haremdanza) of which she was President and Artistic Director.

Since 2017 is the artistic director - section Polynesian Dance of the Academy of Ethnic Dances Asd orientalya where she organized  weekly classes of all levels and now is a lecturer and responsable for the national teacher training courses of Polynesian Dance on behalf of CSEN (sport promotion institution recognised by C.O.N.I. - Italian National Olympic Committee).

Daniela has promoted and taken part in numerous artistic and cultural projects both as a dancer and as a choreographer. She is a teacher and master teacher for festivals, events in Europe.

She is director since 2017 of IA ORA TAHITI ITALY and since 2018 of IA ORA TAHITI ENGLAND - European School specialised in Polynesian Culture and Dance created by Yunick Vaimatapako.

She is a senior member of CID (International Dance Council - CID is the official organisation for all forms of dance in all countries of the world. It brings together the most important international, national and local organisations, as well as selected individuals active in dance. Its members are the most prominent federations, associations, schools, companies and individuals in over 170 countries. CID is an official partner of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).
